Activists gather in front of the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv on Oct. 4 to protest against the granting of credits to the National Bank of Ukraine under its head, Valeria Gontareva, and requesting that the U.S. government encourage the Ukrainian authorities do more to fight corruption.

A group of anti-corruption protesters rallied outside the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv on Oct. 4, calling on the United States to increase pressure on the Ukrainian authorities to fight against corruption in Ukraine.

The protesters, rallying under the slogan “Yanukovych’s money: Are Ukraine’s authorities just pretending to investigate?” also asked to meet with the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, but were not admitted to the embassy.

In particular, the protesters targeted NBU Governor Valeria Gontereva, whom they accused of stealing credits granted to Ukraine. The protesters also wore masks with the faces of Gontereva and former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, and staged a topless protest as the “laundered” money in a symbolic gesture in protests at what they regard as the misuse of foreign credits granted to Ukraine.
