Ukrainian authorities say 14 police officers were injured in clashes with anti-government protesters in Kyiv on Feb. 27. Several protesters were also hurt, according to media reports.

Police said the clashes took place after officers prevented demonstrators from setting fire to car tires close to the parliament building.

A protest camp was set up outside parliament on Oct. 17, when supporters of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili marched to the Verkhovna Rada demanding that an anti-corruption court be set up, and lawmakers’ immunity from prosecution be lifted.

Protesters and police have clashed several times over the months since the tent camp was set up.

Saakashvili, a former friend of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko who became his political opponent, was detained and deported from Ukraine on Feb. 12.
