Parliament votes to arrest lawmaker Onyshchenko

The Verkhovna Rada on July 5 voted to strip Oleksandr Onyshchenko, a Verkhovna Rada member from the People’s Will faction, of immunity and arrest him.

According to his Instagram, Onyshchenko was in Moscow on July 3. But he claimed in a conversation with strana.ua on July 5 that he was in Austria.

Onyshchenko is accused of running a Hr 3 billion ($120 million) embezzlement scheme linked to state-owned gas producer Ukrgazvydobuvannya.
