Lawmakers on Jan. 28 voted to scrap controversial anti-protest laws pushed through parliament on Jan. 16 that led to an escalation in violence between EuroMaidan anti-government protesters and police. Ahead of the speacial parliament session Prime Minister Mykola Azarov tendered his resignation, which was accepted by President Viktor Yanukovych later in the day.
