The Christmas celebrations in Kyiv officially kicked off on Dec. 19.

The Christmas celebrations in Kyiv officially kicked off on Dec. 19 with the celebration of St. Nicholas Day – the first in a long series of winter holidays that will run till the middle of January.

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko and First Lady Maryna Poroshenko came to St. Sophia Square to open the main Christmas tree of the capital.

Till Jan. 19, the whole square between the cathedrals of St. Sophia and St. Michael in central Kyiv will be a huge Christmas market with food, attractions, and music concerts.
