Sending off Ukraine’s Olympic team to Rio 2016

Hundreds attended an official farewell ceremony for Ukraine's Olympic team on Sofiivska square in Kyiv on July 23. The team will soon set off for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Ukraine will be represented in Brazil by 205 of the country’s top athletes for three weeks of games due to start on Aug. 5.

All together 10,500 athletes will compete from 206 countries over 17 days in 306 different competitions.

Ukraine’s 205 athletes specialize in 27 types of sport. The country will be best represented in the track and field events by 65 members of the team.

This will be the first time in Ukraine’s 20 year history of participation in the games that the country will compete in the synchronized swimming, fencing and kayaking events.
