In Ukraine, Orthodox Christians that belong to Ukrainian, Russian and Greek Orthodox churches celebrate Christmas on Jan. 7 instead of Dec. 25, because the Ukrainian Orthodox churches follow an old Julian calendar, as opposite to the more modern Gregorian calendar.

Head of Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church Svyatoslav Shevchuk said on Jan. 6 that his church is considering switching to Dec. 25 celebration.
