(COMBO) This combination of pictures created on November 08, 2016 shows Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in Raleigh, North Carolina, September 27, 2016 and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in Reno, Nevada on November 5, 2016. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were running neck and neck Tuesday in early results as polling stations closed in the eastern United States, with the world waiting anxiously to see who would win the historic White House clash. A deeply divided electorate of about 200 million Americans were asked to make a momentous choice between electing the nation's first woman president, or handing the reins of power to a billionaire populist who has upended U.S. politics with his improbable outsider campaign.

Businessman and reality TV show star Donald Trump claimed victory in the U.S. presidential election early on Nov. 9, the Republican Party candidate winning a surprise victory over his Democratic Party rival Hillary Clinton.

The win shocked and surprised the world, with many in Ukraine uncertain what the new U.S. administration’s policy towards Ukraine and Russia will be. Ukraine has counted the United States a key ally in its battle to fend off aggression from Russia, but Trump signaled during his campaign and in his victory speech that he wants to seek better relations with Russia.
