President Volodymyr Zelensky took a working trip to Donbas on April 8, 2021, amid a spike in tensions with Moscow.

Large Russian forces have deployed along the Ukrainian border, raising fears of a major escalation of Russia’s long-running invasion of Donbas. The president visited the military’s front line positions, where the comprehensive ceasefire has been continuously violated by Russian-sponsored forces, which killed 25 soldiers and officers since the start of the year.

At the same time, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba held talks with his Polish counterpart, who made an urgent visit to Ukraine at Kuleba’s invitation. Rau expressed concern over Russia’s actions and reaffirmed Poland’s support of Ukraine’s struggle for territorial integrity.

The top diplomats of Ukraine and Poland discussed military and political cooperation and agreed to work together to consolidate international support to counter Russian aggression.
