It was a long-awaited encounter, and it proved just as controversial as everyone expected. United States President Donald Trump had his first official meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany. In talks that ran over two hours, the two reportedly discussed everything from Ukraine and Syria to cyber security. President Trump is also said to have confronted President Putin about Russia’s involvement in hacking attacks on the US election. But the meeting was far from typical: Only the two Presidents, their foreign secretaries and their translators were present, offering no alternative record of what was said. To discuss the possible outcomes of the Putin-Trump meeting, Hromadske spoke to Washington Post columnist, Anne Applebaum.
