RFE/RL: Saakashvili says his arrest was a gift to Putin (VIDEO)

Hours after his release from detention in Ukraine, opposition politician Mikheil Saakashvili said that his arrest on suspicion of abetting an alleged “criminal group” was instead a gift to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The former Georgian president, who moved to Ukraine and has become a fierce critic of Ukraine’s current President Petro Poroshenko, calls himself Putin’s “biggest enemy in the post-Soviet space.”Saakashvili was arrested last week for what Ukrainian authorities said were his ties to a group led by Ukraine’s former pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych. A court in Kyiv released him on Dec. 11, although the case remains open. In an interview with Current Time TV, the Russian-language network run by RFE/RL in cooperation with VOA, Saakashvili said the main enemy in Ukraine was corruption. (Current Time TV)
