Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has ordered Fuel and Energy Minister Yuriy Boiko, Industrial Policy Minister Dmytro Kolesnikov, Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko and Naftogaz Ukrainy CEO Yevhen Bakulin to study the possibility of Ukrainian companies participating in the construction of power plants in Kazakhstan.
The initiative comes as part of the agreements signed during Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s visit to Ukraine on September 14-15.
Ukraine will consider taking part in the construction of a nuclear power plant and thermal power plants in Kazakhstan, as well as the modernization of Ekibastuz GRES-1 and GRES-2.
In addition, Head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Committee of Ukraine Oleksandr Mykolaichuk, Boiko and Hryschenko were put in charge of developing a trilateral cooperation plan (jointly with Russia) in the first half of 2011 for uranium mining and nuclear fuel production (uranium pallets).
