May 11 – Pivdenno-Zakhidna Railways on May 7 launched electric train traffic on the Darnytsky bridge in Kyiv, according to the railways' press service.

The whole bridge, including the road, is to be completed in 2012.

"It is planned to partially start traffic on the vehicle road on the bridge across the River Dnipro in Kyiv. This will ease traffic on other bridges. The bridge’s capacity is 60,000 vehicles and 120 pairs of trains per day," the press service said.

The construction of the Darnytsky bridge was started under cabinet resolutions of December 10, 2003, and October 15, 2004, and the law of Ukraine on attracting credit funds to finance the development and construction of the bridge across the Dnipro river in Kyiv.
