KYIV, Jan. 30 – Ukrainian pole vault great Serhiy Bubka plans to run in parliamentary elections for a pro-presidential political bloc, officials said Tuesday. But the Central Elections Commission warned that they may have to exclude the athlete from the March 31 race because instead of listing one address on his application form, he listed three.

The commission is currently reviewing Bubka’s documents to determine if it was filed incorrectly, its press service said. Bubka is listed as running as part of the For United Ukraine bloc led by Volodymyr Lytvyn, chief of the presidential administration. Last February, Bubka officially ended his sports career in which he won six straight world titles, an Olympic gold medal and broke the world record 35 times. No one has yet come close to challenging Bubka’s supremacy.

He has been a member of the IAAF ruling council since August 2001.
