The European People's Party (EPP) has demanded that the Ukrainian authorities allow toxicological tests of former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko be conducted at independent laboratories in the European Union.

"The EPP asks the government of Ukraine to allow similar independent international medical examinations to take place on a regular basis in the future and asks the authorities to allow the holding of regular toxicology analyses at independent laboratories in the European Union," reads a resolution approved by the EPP on Feb. 29 during a summit in Brussels, which was published on the Web site of the Batkivschyna Party on Thursday.

The EPP also called on the Ukrainian authorities not to question the findings of international medical experts that had examined Tymoshenko and "if required, to allow medical treatment outside the prison system."

The party also expressed deep concern about the state of health of Tymoshenko and former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, as well as the conditions in prison that are dangerous for their health, and demanded the immediate release of Yulia Tymoshenko, Yuriy Lutsenko and other political prisoners.
