Macedonia has shown interest in Ukraine's BTR-4 advanced armoured personnel carrier (APC), which is equipped with a new precision armament and which was designed by Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau (KMDB), a source in the defense industry has told Interfax-Ukraine.

According to the source, the potential order for BTR-4s with German Deutz engines for Macedonia may amount to some 200 vehicles.

The BTR-4, with the new Parus combat module and the Barrier anti-tank guided missile system designed by the Kyiv Luch State Design Bureau, was successfully demonstrated at the IDEX-2009 International Defense Exhibition recently in the United Arab Emirates, the source added.

The BTR-4 is intended to transport mechanized infantry units and provide them with fire support in combat. The BTR is used for equipping military units capable of carrying out combat action in various conditions. It can be used as a basic vehicle for equipping rapid reaction forces and marine units. It can fulfill its tasks both by day and at night, in various climatic conditions, on paved roads and cross-country. The operating temperature range of the BTR-4 is from -40 to +55 degrees Celsius.

Ukrainian light armoured vehicles already hold a competitive position in the world arms market.

According to experts, among the most popular APC in the market of third countries are the BTR-3E and the modernized BTR-70.
