You're reading: Ukrainian population down to 46 million in September

In September, the population of Ukraine decreased by 0.01% or 4, 900 people compared to August, and made up 46, 011, 300 people by Oct. 1, 2009, according to the State Statistics Committee.

By the beginning of October Ukraine’s urban population was 31, 528, 600 people (an increase by 0.06% or 18, 700 people, compared to Sept. 1), while its rural population was 14, 482, 800 people (a decrease by 0.2% or 23, 500 people, compared to the previous month).

As it was earlier reported, in August the population of Ukraine decreased by 0.01% or 6, 100 people, compared to July, and made up 46, 016, 200 people by September.

In 2008, the population of Ukraine shrank by 0.5% or 229, 000 people, compared to the year start. According to the nationwide census that was conducted in December 2001, Ukraine’s population comprised 48, 415, 500 people, including 32, 538, 000 living in urban and 15, 877, 500 in rural areas.
