Ukraine and Sri Lanka have agreed on cooperation within the United Nations and other international forums.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said this at a joint press conference with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Kyiv on Wednesday following a bilateral meeting.

"We confirmed our mutual interest in uniting our efforts to strengthen the multilateral system of tackling new global challenges and threats, among which, first of all, there’s a threat of terrorism," he said.

Yanukovych noted that Ukraine and Sri Lanka had consistently called for the formation of a fair and democratic world order aimed at reaching comprehensive peace, security and prosperity based on the principles of mutual respect and given the interests of all countries.

"We spoke in favor of raising the level of cooperation between Ukraine and Sri Lanka in the United Nations and within our multilateral forums," he said.

Yanukovych also noted that during the talks the sides had agreed to continue holding regular bilateral meetings at the highest political level, as well as at the level of foreign ministries and other government agencies.
