Sevastopol, February 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Divers of the Search and Rescue Center of the Ukrainian Navy have started active preparations to support the sea trials of the Zaporizhia submarine.

The press center of the Ukrainian Navy command told Interfax-Ukraine, referring to the chief of the Search and Rescue Center and the head of the search and rescue service of the Ukrainian Navy, Viktor Dvukhshorstnov, that since the beginning of 2011 the center has significantly increased the training of divers.

"We have certain tasks in 2011, which, in particular, include preparing to support search and rescue activities for the sea trials of the large Zaporizhia submarine, participating in a joint international exercise, as well as supporting Ukrainian Navy troop training events," he said.

Captain Dvukhshorstnov added that in the 2010 educational year the center had managed to achieve a full staffing of drivers, first of all, due to employing servicemen on contract terms, which meant that already this year there has been an increase in the work done to prepare for the fulfillment of various kinds of underwater and technical operations.
