You're reading: Yushchenko says he will run for parliament on party ticket

Ukraine's third president (2005-2010), Our Ukraine Party leader Viktor Yuschenko, has said that he will stand for parliament in the upcoming parliamentary elections on a party ticket.

"I cannot run for deputy on a majority list, as it could be seen as an unfair political game. I have to answer for my party, rather than for myself. Therefore, bringing my political force [to parliament] would be a more chivalrous task than running for MP on my own," the party’s press service quoted him as saying on Tuesday.

Yuschenko said that the presidium of the Our Ukraine Party adopted a fundamental position at a meeting on Tuesday that the party would participate in the elections and that it had called on patriotic and democratic forces to unite.

"Of course, it will depend on our partners what this consolidation will be like. We are open to dialog and negotiations," Yuschenko said.
