The defense counsel for Former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, Oleksiy Bahanets, has filed an appeal against the verdict handed down by Pechersky District Court in Kyiv.

Bahanets told reporters his client had decided not to wait until the deadline for filing an appeal, and lodged the appeal on March 7.

The court registered the appeal but found it difficult to forecast when it will be considered, as the document is lengthy, and examining it and Lutsenko’s case materials will take time, the lawyer said.

As reported, on February 27, 2012, the Pechersky District Court in Kyiv found Lutsenko guilty of committing official crimes and sentenced him to four years in prison, ruling to confiscate his property.
