Sixty percent of respondents in a recent poll said they will definitely vote in the country's upcoming presidential election. The poll was carried out by the Oleksandr Yaremenko Institute for Social Research.
Institute Chairwoman Olha Balakireva, while presenting the results of the survey, said at Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday that expected turnout for the election remains very high. Six in ten respondents (60%) polled by the institute said that they would definitely vote, and a further 28% said that they would probably vote. According to the poll, only 3% of those polled will not participate in the vote, and 2% said that they would probably not vote, with 5% undecided about their intentions.
Balakireva said she is confident that the voter turnout for the presidential election in Ukraine will be at least 70%.
The nationwide survey was conducted from December 11-18. A total of 10,423 respondents from all Ukrainian regions, Kyiv and Crimea participated in the poll. The poll’s margin of error does not exceed 1%.
The 2010 presidential election is set for Sunday, Jan. 17, with a second round (if no candidate receives at least 50% on Jan. 17) set for Sunday, Feb. 7.
