The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has approved an action plan to implement an annual national program of cooperation with NATO in 2010.
A respective resolution has been posted on the Web site of the government.
Under this plan, concerned structures and institutions should draw up legislative changes concerning the judicial system, the civil service, government export controls and a number of other areas. The issue concerns the holding of regular talks with NATO on military reform, economic security, science, environmental protection, as well as military and technical cooperation.
The plan foresees the involvement of Ukraine’s aviation and transport potential in the transportation of cargo and personnel of the armed forces of the alliance’s member states and partners participating in NATO-led peacekeeping missions and operations. In addition, the issue also concerns the continuation of Ukraine’s participation in a peacekeeping operation in Kosovo, as well as the possibility of reinforcing the country’s peacekeeping contingents in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The document also defines Ukraine’s participation in a number of international events organized by the alliance, as well as the training of Ukrainian troops in the structures of NATO member countries.
In general, the plan consists of five sections, which include political and economic issues of cooperation, military issues, resources, security and legal aspects.
As reported, in December 2008, NATO invited Ukraine to a new format of relations as part of the so-called annual national program on preparations for joining the alliance. Since then, Ukraine, along with NATO experts, has drawn up and implemented such a document for a second consecutive year.
The current administration of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has already announced that Kyiv will continue to cooperate with NATO in implementing this document.
