You're reading: Election to Rada to take place in March 2011 if 2004 political reform canceled

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn believes that if the so-called political reform of 2004 is canceled, the parliamentary elections will take place in March of 2011.

"If we assume that a proposal to cancel the law No 2222 – the law about the cancelation of the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, is put to a nationwide referendum, which is being predicted not only by the politicians but by officials, I can say straight away that along with other consequences this will entail there will be the elections to the Verkhovna Rada in March of 2011," Lytvyn told reporters in Kyiv on Thursday.

He explained that according to the wording of the 1996 Constitution before the amendments of 2004, the elections to the Verkhovna Rada take place in March of the fourth year of the parliament’s term.

"The conclusion is obvious," Lytvyn stressed.
