Ukraine's Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka has said that there are no political reasons for the interrogations of the opposition leaders Yulia Tymoshenko and Oleksandr Turchynov.
In an interview with the Segodnia newspaper, Pshonka said that the Main Control and Revision Office of Ukraine and the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine audited the results of the activity of the government, which was headed by Tymoshenko, and discovered violations.
"A court and an accounting [study] were appointed to find out what stands behind these violations. It has to discover how the budget assets were spent, was there any damage and what was its scale. These materials will be submitted to the prosecutor general’s office. Should it react? It has to. That’s all. But they are trying to say this is all down to politics… The former head of the State Treasury is hiding from the investigation. Why is she trying to run away? If she is not guilty, why would she hide from the investigation?" Pshonka said.
The prosecutor general also said that a criminal case against Former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko "is being investigated and is coming to an end."
