A massive pile of rubble marks the spot where a 5-story building stood just the night before, after Russia struck Kyiv again on the night of June 22.
Hours after sirens sounded the end of the air raid, emergency workers pulled a 7th person’s remains out of the rubble that stands meters high and could still hold more bodies.
At least 7 civilians were killed in the early morning barrage on the capital, and dozens more were injured.
The attack comes a week after another deadly strike obliterated a 9-story apartment building, crushing 23 people and injuring dozens.
Russia launched more than 300 drones and missiles during the barrage, including hypersonic Iskander missiles, at cities across Ukraine.
Svitlana Vodolaga, communications director for the State Emergency Services (SES) in Kyiv, told Kyiv Post that it angers her that some people could think the war has ended here. “They are destroying the Ukrainian people,” she said. “This is genocide of the Ukrainian people.”
Attacks against civilians have become commonplace in Ukraine, where Russia’s full-scale invasion grinds on into its fourth year. With the increase in attacks recently, SES workers are stretched thin.
Rescue workers remain on site in case more victims – or bodies – are found in the wreckage.
