ROSTOV-ON-DON – Over 1,500 people have sought aid following a major fire in central Rostov-on-Don, the city administration press service said.

“As many as 564 people affected by the fire were registered as of 1 p.m. Moscow time on Tuesday. Some 246 people are registered in the city’s Proletarsky neighborhood, 318 people in the Kirovsky neighborhood,” the report said.

Fire-affected residents are being accommodated at four temporary residence centers. Beds, water supplies and hot meals are provided there. All conditions necessary for children, including newborns, have been created.

Compensation is being paid at temporary accommodation centers.

According to the Emergency Situations Ministry, the fire in an area of private houses in Rostov-on-Don began at 12.52 p.m. Moscow time on August 21. More than a hundred homes went up in flames over an area of 10,000 square meters. Open flames have been put out, water is being poured over the fire scene, and debris is being cleaned up.

The fire was reported to be fully extinguished at 1.21 p.m. Moscow time.
