MOSCOW – Israel believes it should develop cooperation with Russia on combating terrorism and sharing intelligence on terrorist organizations, Israeli Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit said.

“I hope our cooperation will be developing and we will exchange intelligence on terrorist organizations, which should enable both countries to fight terrorism more efficiently,” Mandelblit said in an interview with Interfax.

“The Israeli Prosecutor General’s Department has very good relations with the Russian side: two Israeli delegations came to Russia last year, and a delegation from Russia will visit Israel this year,” he added.

Mandelblit added that he had a meeting with Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika while visiting Moscow on Wednesday.

“Our conversation lasted one hour, and we shared the view that we need to cooperate on combating terrorism. We discussed bilateral interaction between Russia and Israel, including in the context of the international fight against terrorism. As is well known, terrorists from ISIL (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) threaten not only Israel but also Russia, as well as a lot of other countries,” Mandelblit said.
