The ruble retreated amid speculation OPEC talks in Algiers will do little to stabilize oil prices, spurring concern about growth prospects in the world’s biggest energy exporter.
The Russian currency dropped 0.2 percent against the dollar by 11:23 a.m. in Moscow, even as Brent crude trimmed Tuesday’s 2.9 percent slump. Five-year bond yields were little changed at 8.49 percent, up five basis points this week.
