MOSCOW – Gazprom has set a second historical record for daily exports since the beginning of the new year, having exported 615.5 million cubic meters of natural on January 6, beating the record from the previous day, January 5, of 614.6 million cubic meters of gas, the Gazprom spokesperson said.

“We have reached a whole new level for gas exports amid colder weather conditions, the decrease of Europe’s own output and the growing demand for gas on the energy market,” Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller was quoted by the spokesperson as saying.

The company also said that with the increased demand for natural gas in Europe Gazprom has been shipping record-breaking volumes via Nord Stream of 165.2 million cubic meters of gas per day for three consecutive days, on January 4, 5 and 6.

The company’s daily export of gas has risen since the beginning of 2017. On January 1 it hit 160.75 million cubic meters per day for the first time. On January 2, 3 and 4 the figure kept rising, with daily exports of 161, 163.1 and 165.2 million cubic meters respectively.

“Currently, Nord Stream’s utilization, in yearly terms, is 10% above the projected gas pipe volumes. European consumers are choosing it for high reliability of gas transportation. This is not just a direct gas pipeline connecting the Russian and European gas transportation systems directly, but what is also very important is that the gas pipeline is modern and highly technological. It is guaranteed to supply Europe with Russian gas for decades to come. Nord Stream II will possess the same advantages,” Miller said.
