TBILISI – Georgia exported 15.365 million liters of alcoholic beverages in January-March 2017, 66% more than the same period in 2016, the National Statistics Office said in a statement.

Exports of grape wine grew 73.1% to 10.984 million liters, while exports of pure alcohol and spirits increased 50.5% to 4.381 million liters.

Revenue from exports of alcoholic beverages grew 49% to $54.4 million. Revenue from grape wine exports increased 62.2% to $31.3 million, and revenue from exports of pure alcohol and spirits grew 34.3% to $23.1 million.

In January-March Georgia exported wine to 38 countries, up from 26 countries last year and pure alcohol and spirits to 13 countries, up from 10 countries. The biggest importer was Russia which imported 23.7% of exports at a total of 1.040 million liters.

In 2016 Georgia exported 56.450 million liters of alcoholic beverages, up 60% compared to 2015. Wine exports totaled 37.602 million liters, up 38.5% while exports of pure alcohol and spirits totaled 18.847 million liters, up 2.3-fold. More than half of Georgia’s exports of alcoholic beverages last year went to Russia.
