The standoff between the West and Russia has reached a critical point, but it is necessary to try to look for common interests, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said.

“We have now reached a critical point. We can continue this escalation, confining ourselves only to our point of view, or we can try again and again to understand what is happening on the other side, understand and accept other interests,” Gabriel said at a press conference in Moscow on March 9.

“Trying again and again to find common interests is the only chance that we have,” he said.
