MOSCOW – The construction of Nord Stream 2 does not require a special regime, Gazprom head Alexei Miller said at a press conference.

“A special regime for the Nord Stream 2 project is of course unnecessary. Nord Stream 2, as far as technical concepts are concerned, is the same as Nord Stream 1. It will go along the same corridor,” he said.

Miller said that the Nord Stream 1 project was implemented in accordance with international law without any special regime.

The Gazprom chief also said that project financing for Nord Stream 2 is not required in 2017, according to the plan, it will be carried out in 2018.

“We have signed a long-term financing agreement for Nord Stream 2 with our European partners. Strategies for project financing have also been signed. Project financing for the project is not necessary in 2017. It will be financed via mezzanine financing from our European partners,” he said.

Miller said that Russian, European and Asian banks and the Export Credit Agency will participate. “Project financing will be carried out in 2018,” he said.
