The Moscow authorities have agreed to a For Access rally in support of independent candidates to be held in Academician Sakharov Avenue on August 10, first deputy head of the Moscow Department for Regional Security, Vasily Oleinik, said.

The Libertarian Party filed an application with the Moscow City Hall on July 29 for a rally on Lubyanskaya Square planned for August 3. The Moscow City Hall declined the application and offered an alternative location on Sakharov Avenue, which the party disagreed with. Following unsuccessful negotiations with the Moscow City Hall, the organizers recalled their application on July 30.

Yelena Rusakova, a non-registered Moscow City Duma candidate and Yabloko party member, said later that a group of municipal deputies had written a request for the Moscow government to allow pickets and provide safety during this rally on August 3. She had said earlier that she applied with the city hall for a rally to be held on August 10 on the subject of compliance with the election laws.

“The applications received for the rally to be held: on August 10 – four applications, on August 11 two notifications. Today agreement was reached with a group of citizens and organizer Yelena Rusakova that the rally will be held in Academician Sakharov Avenue on [August] 10 from 2 p.m. till 4 p.m. with a stage to be installed outside number 9 in Sakharov Avenue. The agreed number of participants: up to 100,000 people,” Oleinik said.
