Representatives of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov’s daughter Zhanna have appealed against the judgment handed down to five defendants in the case of his murder, lawyer Olga Mikhailova told Interfax.

“We, as Zhanna Nemtsova’s representatives, filed an appeal against the judgment of the Moscow District Military Court requesting to reverse the sentence and return the case to the prosecutor’s office,” Mikhailova said on July 21.

“We strongly object to the classification of the defendants’ actions under the Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code (murder) and believe their actions should be classified under the Article 277 of the Russian Criminal Code (an attempt on the life of a statesman or a public figure), given that Boris Yefimovich Nemtsov had been a deputy of the Yaroslavl Regional Duma and a co-chair of the PARNAS party,” the lawyer said.

Mikhailova recalled that while representing Nemtsova, she and her colleague Vadim Prokhorov, repeatedly requested the Moscow District Military Court among others to reclassify the charges.
