You're reading: Police counts about 1,000 participants in opposition rally on downtown Moscow

MOSCOW – About 1,000 people are participating in an authorized rally on Academician Sakharov Avenue, the press service for the Moscow police main department told Interfax on Saturday.

“About 1,000 people are taking part in the rally, which has been permitted by the Moscow city authorities, held on Sakharov Avenue,” the press service said.

Police and Russian National Guard are protecting public order and ensuring security at the place of the event, the press service said.

The rally headlined ‘For Russia, Against Arbitrary Practices and Reprisals’, which has been permitted by authorities, is taking place on Sakharov Avenue on Saturday. It was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the events in the Bolotnaya Square on May 6, 2012.
