You're reading: Polish prime minister calls Nord Stream 2 anti-European project for blackmailing Kyiv, Warsaw

Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline construction project is an example of Brussel’s inconsistency.

“We also stress that Nord Stream 2 is anti-European, and it is just another example of how differently states are treated under similar circumstances,” Morawiecki told the U.S. television channel CNBC in an interview.

He said several years ago the European Commission blocked the implementation of the South Stream project “for a number of considerations.”

“And now, in the context of Nord Stream 2, the same reasoning behind it has been perceived in a positive way,” he said.

He said the project is Russia’s instrument “to blackmail Ukraine and Poland.”
