You're reading: Poll: Over 80 percent of Russians are happy about Putin’s work as president

Like a month ago, 82 percent of Russians said they approve of the work of Russian President Vladimir Putin as president of Russia and 18 percent are unhappy about it, Levada Center told Interfax.

The percentage of Russians who approve of Dmitry Medvedev’s work as prime minister of Russia has decreased to 44 percent from 53 percent in January. Fifty-four percent of the respondents (against 46 percent in January) do not approve of it.

The work of the Russian government is approved by 46 percent of the respondents (51 percent in January). Fifty-three percent of the respondents (against 48 percent in January do not approve of the work of the cabinet of ministers.

The work of the State Duma is approved by 42 percent of the respondents (against 38 percent in March), and 57 percent (against 60 percent a month ago) do not approve of it.

Fifty-three percent of the respondents (against 48 percent in March) said they approve of the work of their governors (mayor in Moscow) and 45 percent said they do not approve of it (51 percent a month ago).

The respondents were also asked to name five or six politicians and public figures they trust the most.

Three people have remained at the top this rating for a year now: the first person on the list is Vladimir Putin (54 percent), followed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov (25 percent) and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu (23 percent).

They are followed by LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky (15 percent), Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov and Dmitry Medvedev (10 percent each), Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, A Just Russia leader Sergei Mironov and Patriarch Kirill (5 percent each), and Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya (4 percent).

Fourteen percent of the respondents said they do not trust any Russian politicians and 12 percent said they are not interested in politics.

Fifty-one percent of the respondents believe the situation in the country is generally developing in the right direction. Thirty-two percent of the respondents have the opposite opinion and 17 percent were undecided.

The poll, which surveys 1,600 people aged 18 and older, was conducted in 137 populated areas of 48 regions of Russia on April 21-24.
