MOSCOW – An extension of the Turk Stream pipeline may pass through Hungary, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a joint press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Russia supplies 60 percent of Hungary’s gas needs, Putin said.

“We are looking at opportunities to include our Hungarian partners in new gas transport projects. I am not ruling out that an overland extension of Turk Stream may pass through Hungary,” he said.

“We were able to agree on gas shipments for 2020 as well. The president said that when the pipeline arrives from the south, it may also reach Hungary. We would very much like it to pass through Hungary, and I seriously asked the president to consider this opportunity,” Orban said.
