MOSCOW – Russian President Vladimir Putin made a statement on Saturday in response to the missile strike delivered on Syria by the Western coalition.

Moscow is calling an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the situation, he said.

“The current escalation of the situation around Syria is having a devastating effect on the entire system of international relations. History will set all things right, and it has already placed the heavy responsibility for the bloody crackdown on Yugoslavia, Iraq and Libya on Washington,” Putin said in a statement circulated by the Kremlin press service.

“Russia is calling an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the aggressive actions of the U.S. and its allies,” the Russian president said.

“Russia in the most serious way condemns the attack on Syria, where Russian servicemen are helping the legitimate government combat terrorism,” he said.

“By their actions, the U.S. is even further aggravating the humanitarian catastrophe in Syria, is causing suffering to the civilian population, is effectively condoning terrorists, who have been torturing the Syrian people for seven years, and is provoking a new wave of refugees from this country and the region in general,” Putin said.
