You're reading: Russia destroys 13,500 tonnes of sanctioned products since imposing embargo

Russia has to date 13,500 tonnes of food products imported into the country that were banned under the country’s food embargo from August 6, 2015, Russia’s food safety watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor reported.

The majority of the destroyed products were plant products, totaling 13,100 tonnes. A total of 473 tonnes of animal products were destroyed.

A total of 13,200 tonnes of sanctioned plant products and 490 tonnes of animal products were withheld during this period.

In the last two weeks the amount of withheld plant products increased by 1,100 tonnes and the amount of animal products by 37 tonnes.
