MOSCOW – The issues related to liberalization of the existing visa regime between Russia and Japan may have been solved by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to the country, Masato Otaka, deputy press secretary of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said.

“I am not sure that I can tell you any particular date. I guess we will try to finalize this (work on the agreement) very promptly. I hope, [this will have been done] by Vladimir Putin’s visit,” Otaka told reporters on Saturday.

The issue was discussed between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida during their talks in Moscow on Saturday.

It will facilitate international exchange between the countries, particularly for youth, Otaka said. It will also increase tourist flow between the countries, he added.
