You're reading: Russian Foreign Ministry says Russia, Belarus moving towards very deep integration

Russia and Belarus will continue stepping up the pace of integration, Russian State Secretary and Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said.

“25 [years’ anniversary] of establishing diplomatic relations with fraternal Belarus is indeed a significant stage of development of the Union State of Russia and Belarus. Not only have we understood our own place as sovereign states in the new international order during this time, but also we have chosen the path of very deep integration and continue to step up the pace of this integration, and create an example, in a sense, for other integration structures existing in the former Soviet Union republics among others,” Karasin said at the official cancellation ceremony of the envelope dedicated to the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Russia and Belarus.

“The leaders of two states set the tone to this process,” as Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko have held seven meetings in 2016 and three already in 2017, he said.

Karasin recalled that a meeting of the union government will take place in St. Petersburg next week, and the Russian-Belarusian Forum will take place at the end of the month.

Our countries “are moving along the right path in a good pace,” the deputy minister said.
