Shaltay-Boltay hacker group leader Vladimir Anikeyev, who was convicted of illegally accessing computer information, has been released from prison, his lawyer Ruslan Koblev told Interfax on Monday, Aug. 6.

“Anikeyev has become one of the first inmates whose time served during the trial has been counted toward his prison sentence. Therefore, he has already been released,” Koblev said.

A law on amendments to Article 72 of the Russian Criminal Code entered into force on July 3, changing the way time served during trials can be counted toward convicts’ prison sentences. According to it, one day in custody will be equivalent to 36 hours in a medium-security or correctional facility, and two days in a penal settlement.
