ISTANBUL – No new sanctions imposed by the United States will interfere in the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project, in which Europe is interested as much as Russia, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said.

“As for Nord Stream, the process has already become irreversible, over 50 percent of the projects have already been implemented,” Matviyenko told journalists during a visit to Turkey on May 17, commenting on a U.S. bill on new anti-Russian sanctions, which may apply to the Nord Stream 2 project.

“The European Union supports this project, they are interested in it as much as Russia, it is a mutually beneficial economic project. I am confident that it is already impossible to stop this project by any bills. It will be completed and the obligations of all parties will be fulfilled,” the lawmaker said.
