MOSCOW – Vladimir Neyolov, a military expert and the author of books on military matters, is suspected of high treason.

“Neyolov is suspected of committing a crime covered by Russian Criminal Code Article 275 (high treason),” the Lefortovsky District Court told Interfax on Nov. 2.

The Federal Security Service’s (FSB) request on applying a restrictive measure to Neyolov was registered at the court as early as Oct. 26. The court, however, declined to say whether Neyolov was taken into custody.

The investigation suspects Neyolov of passing information constituting state secrets to a foreign country. The criminal case has been classified.

If found guilty, Neyolov could be imprisoned to a term ranging from 12 to 20 years.

According to open sources, Neyolov is an expert of the Center of Strategic Trends and the Center of Strategic Estimates and Forecasts. He specializes in studying private military companies and the phenomenon of “privatization of the military sphere,” specifics of modern wars, military doctrines and strategies, revolutionary changes in the military science, and so on.

Neyolov is also the author of a number of works related to strategic research and military-political analysis.
