The Russian state telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor has denied reports that it has blocked some IP addresses used by the WhatsApp online application.

“The unified register of banned information contains no IP addresses of the company you specified. Roskomnadzor does not comment on rumors,” a press officer at the agency told Interfax when asked whether any addresses used by the application had been included in the register.

Media reported earlier that more than 300 IP addresses of WhatsApp had been added to the register of restricted information. The media suggested that it had been done as part of the efforts to block the online messaging service Telegram.
