MOSCOW – The construction of a second line of the TurkStream gas pipeline will depend on future agreements between Russia and the European Union, Turkish Ambassador to Russia Huseyin Dirioz said.

“The construction of the second line of the TurkStream gas pipeline fully depends on agreements to be reached between Russia and the European Union,” Dirioz said at a roundtable on March 13, in commenting on the outcome of the negotiations between the Russian and Turkish presidents in Moscow on March 10.

The ambassador noted the importance of Russia-Turkey energy relations.

“Work in this area continued even when our relationship was going through a difficult period. I believe this shows that every party to this process is independent,” he said.

“It has been justly noted that Turkey is trying to diversify energy supplies, yet the demand is on the rise,” the ambassador said.
