You're reading: Tusk to urge G7 to continue sanctions policy against Russia

Chairman of the European Council Donald Tusk has said on May 26 that at a meeting of the leaders of the G7 countries in the Italian city of Taormina, he intends to call on them to continue the policy of sanctions against Russia.

“Since our last G7 summit in Japan (in 2016) we haven’t seen anything to justify a change in our sanctions policy towards Russia. Therefore I will appeal to the other G7 leaders to reconfirm this policy,” Tusk said at a press conference before the meeting.

He expressed the hope that the G7 will show unity with regard to the conflict in Ukraine. The solution to this conflict can be achieved only if the Minsk agreements are fully implemented, Tusk added.
