ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA — For decades, the Soviet Union celebrated the October Revolution, which brought the communist Bolsheviks to power in Russia. Nowadays, there’s much less celebration.

Several dozen of extras re-enact bolshevik fighters overthrowing the Provisional Government of Alexander Kerensky in the courtyard of the Winter Palace in Petrograd Nov. 7, 1917, in the movie "October" shot in 1927 by Soviet film director Sergey Eisenstein. The Bolshevik takeover began when armed squads of revolutionaries occupied railway stations, post offices and banks, as well as the cruiser Aurora which flew the red flag and was anchored in the river Neva opposite the Winter Palace.
